As part of the Motel One Group, The Cloud One is making its own contribution to the ‘One Planet. One Future.’ sustainability programme, which is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We make it our business to make the world a better place for the future. Our goal is to act in an environmentally responsible and socially sustainable way. We are aware that there is still a lot more to be done and are actively addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Sustainability at The Cloud One Hotels

We see ourselves as an essential hub for sustainable travel and strive to turn stays at our hotels into sustainable experiences – for guests, for employees, for the local community and for the environment. To increase visibility of the most important topic of our time – sustainable development – we’ve displayed the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in the reception area at our first The Cloud One Hotel in New York.

We endeavour to have a positive influence on the cities in which we operate. This includes being aware of the biggest impacts that our business activities have on the environment. Our journey to minimising and managing our impact on the environment starts now.

Sustainable services & operations

We want to incorporate sustainability into everything we do and offer, and to enable our guests to live a sustainable lifestyle even when travelling. To achieve this, we focus on the following sustainable practices when providing our services and in procurement:

REGIONALITY

We source our food and beverages as locally as possible - and if we have the chance, directly from suppliers in the neighborhood.
In New York, for example, the handmade jam comes from Brooklyn, in Hamburg the honey from the city apiary Björn Schumann.

CERTIFICATIONS

The foods at our breakfast buffet is certified organic and /or Fairtrade.*
Our shampoo, shower gel, moisturisers and soaps are also certified sustainable and are offered in refillable pump dispensers.
Our towels, flannels, bath mats and king-size bed linen are also certified sustainable.
Motel One and Green Key have signed a cooperation agreement to certify all hotels of the Motel One Group. The first hotels have already received the
certification and the roll out across the group is ongoing.

*Our pastrami, jams and sweet pastries in the US are produced locally using organic methods, but are not officially certified.

MINIMAL PACKAGING AND USE OF RECYCLED MATERIALS

None of the dishes in our buffet have any packaging.
Wherever possible, we source items in bulk.
Our napkins, toilet paper and paper towels are made from a recycled or sustainably grown material.
We pay special attention to use recycled fabrics in our dress code.

MY SERVICE OPTION

With My Service Option, our guests have the possibility to decline having their room cleaned, meaning we can save water, cleaning products and energy.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

Climate protection is especially important to us. We therefore want to measure and reduce our impact. For this reason, we draw up a carbon footprint every year, covering Scope 1 - 3, and derive improvement measures from it.*

WE USE GREEN ENERGY

All The Cloud One hotels operate with 100% green electricity.

* Calculations performed in collaboration with Schlange, Zamostny & Co. GmbH

** Scope 1 covers emissions from sources that an organisation owns or controls directly – for example from our own fleet of vehicles.
Scope 2 are indirect emissions that a company causes when the electricity, heat and steam it purchases and uses is produced.
Scope 3 encompasses all emissions (not included in Scope 2) that the company is indirectly responsible for, up and down its value chain. Our Scope 3 values for 2022 are based on a model calculation.

ONE COMPLIANCE

We are aware of our responsibilities and have jointly undertaken to perform our day-to-day work in line with our underlying values and in accordance with the applicable law.
One Compliance helps us to do so. In particular, our Code of Conduct – the One Code – is intended to help us make the right decisions, stand up for our values and implement them in our daily activities. The One Code applies to our entire One family, including our executive management and our supervisory board.

The One Foundation, a Motel One Group charity, is a non-profit organisation promoting equal opportunities in society. Our funding projects primarily support socially and economically disadvantaged young people, helping to give them new prospects.
In particular, we support the integration of refugees and asylum seekers into society, education and training at school and in the workplace. The One Foundation also helps train and educate people with exceptional skills and talents (promoting excellence). The mission of our organisation is to lay the foundations for a future they determine themselves.
